HRB Summer Student Scholarships
Description: The Health Research Board (HRB) provides summer scholarships for undergraduate students in health-related disciplines to support their participation in research during the Summer break. The purpose of the student scholarships is to encourage an interest in research and to give the student an opportunity to become familiar with research techniques.
Eligibility: Undergraduate students who are studying in a relevant discipline at a university/third level institute in Ireland but not in the final year of their degree course and who have not previously received a Summer Student Scholarship from the HRB. In line with the HRB strategy the project must fall within one of the following research areas: patient oriented research, health services research, or population health research. Applications that focus solely or predominantly on basic biomedical research are not eligible.
Value: The amount paid will be €250 per week for a maximum of eight weeks and is paid to the student by the nominated Host Institution.

Welcome Trust Biomedical
Description: This scholarship provides undergraduates with hands-on experience of research during the summer vacation, with the aim of encouraging them to consider a career in research.
Value: Scholarships are available for between six and eight weeks and currently provide a stipend for the student of £180 (£190 in London) per week (currently under review). Research expenses are not provided.
Past Deadline: February 14th 2014 (Details of next year’s competition will be announced in autumn 2014)
Eligibility: Applicants should be medical students between the end of the second year and the end of the penultimate year. Please note students who have already completed or are currently undertaking an intercalated year are not eligible to apply, as they will have completed a BSc before the scholarship period. Graduate-entry medical students who have completed a previous undergraduate degree in a science-related subject are not eligible to apply.

Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Award
Description: The College of Medicine and Health invites applications for Summer Undergraduate Research Awards (SURE) from undergraduate students in health-related disciplines in UCC to support their participation in research during Summer 2014. The purpose of these awards is to foster an interest in research and to give the student an opportunity to become familiar with research techniques.
Eligibility: Applicants must be undergraduate students who are not in the final year of their degree course.
Value: Awards of up to €2,000 per student are available for a maximum of eight weeks research.
Past Deadline: April 11th 2014 (the 2015 date is not yet available)

UCC School of Medicine Research Travel Grant
The School of Medicine Research Committee provides limited funding for research travel on a competitive basis to undergraduate medical students.
For the Academic Year 2014-2015 the following dates have been put in place for receipt of applications: January 31st 2015, April 30th 2015, and July 31st 2015
